Context : district modeling tools
Many numerical tools were developed to assess physical processes within the urban fabric, but also for decision system support (DSS) of energy production strategies at district scale. Among these tools we are focusing on 2 specific ones :
- DImosim developed at CSTB - building and system modeling as thermal networks, at the district scale without taking into account the urban canopy layer,
- EnviBatE developed at LaSIE - a zonal approach coupling indoor and ambient environment that allows to assess building energy needs together with urban canopy layer conditions.
In this project, the complimentarity of both tools would allow to fully assess HVAC systems’ impacts on urban environment at district scale.
Aims and work plan
The proposed work will consist to identify the correct levels of modeling and to develop simulation tools integration in a wider approach to allow multicriteria optimization and analysis for urban DSS.
The 3 years’ PhD work will consist to :
1 Identify the key parameters to study through the model development. In a first stage, a state of the art will have to be conducted regarding multicriteria design and stakeholder decision process.
2 Integrate both modeling approaches from Dimosim and EnviBatE for the simulation platform development. The required level of modeling details will have to be studied (sensitivity analysis, etc.), and the various modeling components adapted or completed (buildings and systems, urban canopy and buildings).
3 Methodology set up and validation through case study of district design or refurbishment study.
